I hope you didn't think that post wasn’t necessarily directed at you. What would you consider to be more in line price wise?

Depending on material cost I would consider around a 40-50/hr shop rate and forgo the charge for the design because of the amount you will net off the build itself.

I hate to suggest doing the design work for free, as that is very time consuming and a pita however, it will be paid for once the build is finished.

I do hate how most consumers do not consider the design process as being so time consuming and expect it for free all the time.

I might be able to come down to around 6k and tell him I'll do the design work for free and see how he takes it. I've got to be real careful that I don’t' come down to low or I'm going to have a hard time justifying the price I'm charging him for the greyhound build.

Ah, didn't know you had two builds for him.

What you can do, is come down to say 5500-6000 and tell him it is a better deal because he has a few builds you are doing. Like a "group discount" or something.

Or give him one big number so he doesn't really know what either one costs.

It is tough to get it right.

I would do a "special" price if he wants to do both builds. That should make him feel better about doing both, get you more business, and allows for a fair price for everyone.
