Did I just get OWNED???

I dont know if you got owned but I don't like infinity anymore. I thought they sounded good when they were in my car but the cone cracked on one and the surrond seperated from the cone. was feeding them 40w and they were 40w speakers.

Just curious.. what were the speakers you had (size/name if you remember it)? I've been through their entire line on their site and didn't find a single speaker at 40rms. 35 or 50, yes, but nothing at 40. I currently have Infinity speakers in my Intrepid because I have the ES package, which is a little higher standard stock speakers. I've blown the crap out of the tweeters and the 3.5 in the dash, but that's because I push them waaaaaaaay too hard for too long. That, and the fact that they aren't meant for much abuse in the first place. The ES package just garauntees me slightly better than no-name stock speakers... not top of the line anything heh. Sounds like perhaps you were dealing with something similar.

Infinity has manufactured award-winning SQ components. You wanna know what an expensive mistake would of been. Buying FOCAL components, probably the single most over-rated brand in the audio universe.

Focal only sells basically 2 good models K2Ps and Utopias

They rest are crap IMO.

I have owned both the K2Ps and Utopias they are def not crap.. or over-rated.

Just a lil expensive..

Key word being has, as in years ago. Their current offerings aren't in the same universe SQ wise as their old school comps with the polycell tweeters.

And of course crutchfield is going to recommend a product they sell tons of. That doesn't mean it's a quality product. Infinity comps are bottom of the barrel, but they work fine, and they are pushed by many retailers, that's where their reputation comes from nowadays, not from being a great speaker maker.

Ok.. I can take constructive criticism, but that's about the stupidest fvcking thing I've ever heard. Infinity at the bottom of the barrel?? right.

Besides the crutchfield review, which I pretty much threw up there as a credible source to back my claims, almost every good review I've had was from people who *OWN* and have owned the components, for a long time.

I am 100% well aware that there are better components out there, but to say that the high end Infinity components are "crap" or "at the bottom of the barrel" is just being a bandwagon-hopping yuppie.

Retards that completely denounce an entire line of products based off of a few low end products that are massed produced and, in no way, reflect the quality of the high end materials are the reason that JL audio makes so much money.

I can concure. Their older stuff is supposed to be nice too. (whenver I actually find time to install some old focal drivers I got cheap)

Why would you feed speakers there RMS rated power? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I wasn't denouncing their entire line of products, just their comps as that is where I have hands on experience with. I've been in and out of the mobile electronics industry since 1988, I've had tons of experience with infinity comps over the years, and their new stuff is horrible sounding compared to their old school comps. My roomate was an infinity dealer for years, and will back up everything I've said about their comps. They are bottom of the barrel for their respective price range.

Retards that blindly push a certain product just because that's what they were talked into buying by a greedy salesperson really piss me off. Crutchfield isn't going to tell the truth and say "well gee, I've personally found the infinity comps to lack midbass, and sound distorted at moderate to high listening levels". They're in the business to sell the products they buy.

People who own products are of course going to say things like "they rock", " they're the best I've heard" and other half truths. But how many nice sounding, well setup component systems have these people listened to?

On the subject of bandwagon, isn't that the pot calling the kettle? And where have I suggested another specific brand that I am bandwagoning? All I've said is there are much better choices in the same price range other than infinity's. The original question in this thread is "Did I get owned", not "Did I get owned?, please don't be honest in your answer". I shared my experience with the current lines of Infinity component speakers that's it!

I stand by my comment, Infinity comps are bottom of the barrel when it comes to sound quality.

Grow some skin.

Here is what you said the guy said and what I read between the lines:

You: "Hi, I want the PG amp" (Me: "Hi, I want the PG Amp")

Him "Uhhhhh..... we are having problems with that amp, but we have an MA Audio amp instead" (Me: If they are having so many problems, why not drop it? The problem they are having is a customer with money in their pocket who wants something they don't have in stock)

They are having problems getting the product. I can't comment on the MA Audio amp cause I haven't used it, but I find the way it was handled a bit suspicious at best, bait and switch at worst.

**************THIS IS THE BEGINNING OF A NEW POST***********

I'm not entirely sure yet, but there's a very decent chance that I'll be getting an 06 xxx.

I see lots of people tossing names around here, but I also realize that some people play w/a limited budget, and sort of "make do" with what they can.

What I'm really interested in would be which models of amps that are high middle to high end amps that would be best for powering an 06 XXX

EDIT: I have been trying for the last 2 hours to post this on the amplifiers board, but keep getting either a "system hangup," "server connection timeout," or "Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 1024 bytes) in /home/virtual/site1/fst/var/www/html/forum/includes/functions_search.php on line 196"

so, basically I'm rehijacking my own thread because I can't seem to post new ones.

Lol.. seriously?? I've been researching them pretty hardcore for the past few weeks, talking to people who spec systems, people who own them, people who own them *and* spec systems.. and I've gotten great reviews from everyone.
I guess it fits that the first bad review comes right after I actually send the order through lol.

And yes, the kappas run at 2 ohms. I was originally going to go with infinity perfects, but they run at 4ohms. Seeing as the 6x9s run at 2ohms, I would have bought 2 separate amps... one for the perfects and one for the 6x9s.

However, after reviewing the kappa stats, they are actually better than the perfect stats and seem to complement the 6x9s better... *and* they can run on the same amp!

perfect 6.1 stats: http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=12200

100rms-400max

90db sensitivity

75-23k FR

24 db crossover

4ohm

60.7cs stats: http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=15366

100rms-300max

95db sensi

45-25k FR

18db cross

2ohm
For what you paid for the K. Perfect 6.1's and 6x9's, you could have found a really good set of components. I would have ditched the 6x9's and done that.

Lol.. it's ok... I chat on a LOOOOOOT harsher boards than this. I can take the criticism.
Quite frankly, I just look at this as a learning experience. I make more than enough money to play around w/this stuff.. so I'm not really too worried about poor choices in the first 3 weeks or so that I start looking this stuff up //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif.

For instance, there's been a LOT of debate over rear fill vs no rear fill to vent subs.

I went ahead and bought the 6x9s, because it will be a few weeks before I decide on sub(s)/amp. When I do get my subs, I can try with and without rear fill till my heart's content. Meanwhile, I'll have nice SQ listening to my 6x9s.

It's really hard to just KNOW everything there is to know about car audio w/out having experienced it firsthand...
See bolded statement. I think you just contradicted yourself. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif
