Did I do it right?!?

Well...

I left the wiring in last night as-is, with no subs even in the car and no speaker wires attached to the sub amp. There are RCA cables hooked up to the sub amp to the speaker amp to the HU. This morning I started up the car, no problem.

BUT, there was a high-pitched whine emanating througout the car as it was running. The radio was off.

It sounded like a computer monitor being on when the computer is off.

What is causing that?

I'm disconnecting everything and taping it off today, FWIW.

Ground loop is the high pitch. Redo your ground. Does it get louder when you press on the gas?
Okay. The ground is decent, but could be better. Will also try repositioning the wires away from the RCA cables.

I've had engine whine before, but only when the radio was on. Today, the radio was off and I've never heard engine whine like that before (if that's what it is). It was a much higher pitch, barely audible, and did not change when the speed of the car changed.

It wouldn't be coming from the power cables themselves, would it?

You're going the right direction with moving the RCA's and re-attaching the ground. Make sure to sand off all the paint at your ground point.

I don't think it would be coming from the power cables, but this is car audio, anything is possible //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

What part of Columbus are you in? We can hook up after I get this thing done.

Just be sure to mount that battery SECURELY!

I can't stress that enough. I had a kinetic 600 installed by a shop and they put the battery in my spare tire well in the trunk and didnt mount it or anything. I didn't think to check, because i thought the guys were professionals. Driving down the road the batt arced on the metal and i had a fire in no time...

I'm glad you focus on making things look clean....

People may think "Oh I can just Hook it up and leave all this extra wire no porblem"

But if you spend the time to make it clean you are also helping with keeping everything safe and secure to not have a fire/blown amp/subs/speakers.

How many systems have you seen that don't work that look like the OP's pics?

How many have you seen that don't work that are clean, tidy, wires tucked, etc?

I'm sure the first number is ten times larger than the second...

I agree with your assertion. The same is true for auto care in general: the better you take care of a car's exterior, the less likely you are to have mechanical problems. That is, having a clean audio system or a well-kept exterior is the product of showing proper attention to the car.

FWIW, I'm not about to start cutting down power cable until I have EVERYTHING I need and have confirmed the setup is wired properly and everything works as it should.

Hey, that 1/0 isn't cheap and neither are the terminals!!

Haha, youre right. I uess I am just used to having full lengths around if I do cut it short...

Come to think of it though, I have never cut it short. Plan it out ahead of time and you'll be golden.
