a friend of mine went to a audio shop and asked for a sub and amp combo that would sound ok and get kinda loud. they then showed him the following setup...

in my opinion he could have got something a hell of lot better for the price. not really sure how much he spent but i think he got ripped off. they did the install and everything for him. the power wire was only like 10 gauge and the ground was 12 or smaller. it sounds ok but not as loud as my two alpines //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Sounds to me like the shop gave him exactly what he asked for.

Your comments are almost verbatim what he asked the shop to give him.

i tried to help him...but he didnt listen, he wanted something as loud as mine, but look what they sold him. he is a noob so he didnt know any better.

do you guys think he could put another sub on that amp? would it push two of those subs? cause he said hes gonna go back and get another one later on.

That amp puts out 500 watts RMS into a 4ohm mono load so it it would give two dvc 4ohm subs 250 watts a peice to work with. The problem here is that he has already bought an SVC 4ohm woofer so if he adds a second he has no way of wiring the pair into a 4ohm mono load(the amp is not 2ohm mono stable).

His best bet is to invest in a properly built ported box for the single woofer tuned around 40 hz, this will give him the boost in SPL he wants and still keep decent sound quaility, those subs actually sound better in ported boxes then they do in sealed.

What piques my curiosity is the fact that mustangowner's friend as well as mustangowner are using ground cable smaller than the power cable being run to amps.

Isn't ground cable best run in the same gauge as the power cable?

While certainly that avatar is worthy of some of our attention I'm with skmfkr...the friend went to an actual shop (not just some dude that said "Hey, fella, I can hook that up for you and it'll only cost $$XXX.00!") that wired his gear with smaller ground wire than power cable?

I wanna know what shop that might be so we can steer other n00bs way clear of there.
