Hey wondering if anybody could help me out I have a ed 9.1 running to a pioneer premiere at 1 ohm. Whole system done in 1/0 gauge, did Big 3 with 4 gauge and have my alt rewound to 200 amps. Lights dim horribly and battery gauge bounces terrible also. I can't imagine it would be this bad just because of the battery. When i ran my chasis to engine block for my Big 3 I hooked the end on to a connection on the engine intake. So I don't no if thats the best connection but I still wouldn't think it would make that big of a difference. Sounds good, but I defiantely notice a difference when driving during day with lights off and at night with lights on. I no I'm loosing lots of performance here whats going on. Could it possibly be clipping? I followed the tutorial set my gain at 34.6 volts(thats what I figured it out to be) with dmm at 75% which is 25/35 volume with kenwood deck. So that should allow me to go to close to full volume with little or no clipping correct because thats what it said in the JL tutorial. Help me out here people PLEASE!!!

i read somewhere that it was better to just buy an HO alt as opposed to having stock rewound
It is MUCH better... Fairly soon down the road that altenator is gonna crap out. It wasnt originally built to do that amperage, so you should have just replaced it.

And do the lights dim while you are driving, or just when you are at idle?

You cant just throw a shorter belt on... How is it going to fit?
Get a smaller pulley, and then get a shorter belt, and your alt will spin faster at lower RPM's.
some vehicles have the option where you can slide your alty up and down almost 2 inches.

Oh yeah? Then couldnt you just slide it up (or down, which ever increases tension), instead of buying a new belt?
if you increase tension on the belt he has now will do no good, he needs a shorter belt or like you said smaller pulley and belt, but why not try the smaller belt first. BTW if you change your pulley to a smaller one subtract the diameter of it to your stock one.

Ex.

stock pulley 2"diameter

new pulley 1" diameter

difference 1"

get a belt that is 1" shorter than your stock one.

the simple answer to your question for one reason or another

your alt is NOT putting out enough power go back and recheck all your wiring to the alt if its all fine and your sure your battery is charging fine . then it might be a simple case of your alt not bieng big enough and the 200 amp rating might be a maximum rating and it actually does alot less and even if it wasnt a max rating 200 amp would be alot less while idling, or at a low rpm like say at a red light or moving slow . add to that the amount of current all the things in your car use up and you will notice you might be closer to the max rating then you think. example max current draw on nine.1 is 130 amps assuming you have a amp for your comps/speakers also at around 75x2 thats probably around 20 amps max draw with just those 2 things your looking at 150 amps max draw now add lights, dashboard ,radio etc. try taking the car out on the highway and see if the same dimming happens .

if you take car on the highway and the same thing occurs then sounds like something is either wrong with your alt or your big 3 wiring if the dimming goes away then your alt puts out low amps at low rpms not hard to fix just change pully on alt and use shorter belt

now that bieng said ..... i run a nine.1 @1 ohm @ 34.6 a nine.4@ 4 ohms head unit etc with a 110 amp alt do i think im getting the most out of my amp? no. but while i do have some dimming it is not what i would call horrible ...

lol wow almost everyone beat me to it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

also i noticed you said your running the nine.1 to A premier spl sub? im guessing its a dual 2 ohm sub if it is then i gotta tell ya 1200w rms is a bit to much if the sub is a TS-W3002SPL the rating rms on it is 1000w rms

****EDITED***

X2!! I had a stock 83amp alty with 1 orion 2500D wired at 1ohm with slight dimming and the factory batt.

I have a 200A alt from Excessive, and I run a PowerBass 3000D @ 1 ohm (3k + RMS) and I have slight dimming still. I have a Yellow Top under the hood as well. But I have done all I can, and spent all I will, so I have just came to the assumption that this amp draws some major current...
