determining the sq of a sub

the more sides the better it sounds - known fact
Also, the bigger it is, the less "tight" it sounds //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
That's why those Sony pentagon subs sound so good, at least my friends setup sounded amazing. And they were 8's, so yeah, they kept up with even the fastest songs and stayed super tight //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

But seriously to me sq of a sub is how well it could blend with the front stage with out drawing your attention to the back and how natural it will sound playing live instruments that reaches freqs in the sub region. For example: I have heard subs that will sound like thuds on certain drums instead sound like Real drums hence natural sounding. Whala SQ fo dat Azs

Hence the dust cap on that baby! "SQ"

You guys really need to build up some sarcasm:crap: I'll pre-warn you guys if I do tend to next time.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

Seriously, back on topic. The answer would be, like many of you have along the lines stated earlier, using your own ears.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

My post was dripping with sarcasim.

Using that information one could equate that a circle sub is the worst, it only has 1 'side'...

That's why Memphis created this beauty:

A total of 3 sides! Would that mean three times the betterness?

*sarcasm* (for those who are a bit slow at catching on)

Actually... While thinking about it, a circle has an infinant number of tangents so infinantly many sides.

so that mephas sub is 3x infinity sides so it should be the best sounding sub evar.

Not used to this kind of sarcasm yet.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/blackeye.gif.66a1670f5aaf7f406e783a63e3387dc5.gif

Ahhh yes, note the apostropic quotes around side...I wasn't sure. No wonder they aren't on Memphis's page anymore...no amp can push 3x infinity...unless!!!!

JTLYK, my post was sarcastic as well, hehe.

I think SQ means something different to everyone you ask. I think in general most ppl would assume a sub that has good SQ has very little distortion, good frequency response, and the ability to blend with the front stage, but like everyone has already said, some ppl may think Sub A sounds amazing, while others think it ***** ass.

90% install 10% product

Agreed. I have heard 2 12" L7's get pretty **** loud and hit pretty low, but they didn't sound very good at all, but then another one of my friends has 1 12" L7 that actually sounds pretty good, but it doesn't get as low, or nearly as loud (granted 1 sub vs 2), but still, same sub being used, different installs, different results.

I go by a 100% install and 100% equipment

Given that If everyone knew how to install their stuff correctly and built a sturdy air tight recommended size box for the subs and Pyle was the only company that made car audio products everyone would be //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif

That's where the 10% comes from. You can take the best components and just slap 'em together and it'll sound like ****.

I remember hearing of a guy competing in iasca very recently with a full sony setup. Won a couple events if I remember right.
