determining the sq of a sub

Anyone notice those things are $20 each, or $10 each if you get 4? For that price I'd be willing to buy 4 just to mess with.

Insight on subjective SQ by Srajan Ebaen : http://www.decware.com/paper78.htm

During a recent interview with Srajan Ebaen of 6-Moons, he made the observation that many accomplished musicians have rather mediocre stereo gear. Gear that by most audiophiles standards would be considered mid-fi at best. His explanation was basically that musicians play a participatory role in the experience of music. They only need a guideline or sketch of the music to recreate it in their minds which explains why when offered hi-end stereo gear to replace their mid-fi components most showed little if any interest.
The point of all this is that during a human beings shift from discovering music as a child to becoming a seasoned audiophile, the participatory or imaginative process employed when enjoying music when you were young (regardless of sound quality) is gradually replaced with expensive audiophile gear. Srajan accurately points out that this attempt at substitution does not work. What it does do is create restlessness in audiophiles while they passively wait for their wonder gear to get them off on command. This is the reason why audiophiles constantly go through different gear in that never ending search for something that they used to have as a child, or can only find at a live concert hall.

as everyone has said, there is no way for me to determine if something is going to sound good to you. if that was the case, every SQ comp would be won by the same person and the same system. the thing that bothers me, it seems to me that people say the SQ subs in a comparison are whatever is quieter, and thats not always the case.

Indeed. Though, not everyone is such a musician. While most human beings have never actually been involved with music in such a way, reproducing it as close to the real thing is what Boston Acoustics does best with their acclaimed 'The Boston Sound.' And I would agree. And don't forget DLS!
So... you're quoting me as a way of plugging two of your favorite brands? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif

Sheesh, you 06'ers. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif "The Boston Sound" is the same thing as "The Bose Effect". It's a shimmering overgeneralized statement that's used to glorify the brand as superior to others because of some unmentionable uniqueness that can not be attained with outside equipment. You will find there is no specific set of traits that can be measured that can prove "The Boston Sound" is unique compared to other brands or even if "The Boston Sound" exists.

Not dissing Boston Acoustic here, I haven't listened to BA long enough to gain a fair perspective; but that motto has no meaning.

As long as I'm an 06'er who has been in audio longer than you've been alive.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I wouldn't take the motto that far. The motto is quite simple. It's a motto to signify a goal of reproducing recorded music a certain way, that's it. You'd have to admit that Boston Acoustics speakers do have similar acoustical characterisitcs throughout their line.

You seem to be making it more complicated than it is. It sure can be used as a marketing scheme but as you know and heard, the motto has a meaning. Proving its existence just takes it out of perspective. Again, using the SQ analogy, you may take the 'The Boston Sound' from a different approach anyone else would. Perhaps they may be my favorite brands, may be not...I never stated it. It was purely an example of one company putting music in an audible experience what musicians seem to experience in theirs, natural real life sound. Redundant but I will say it just like others have in this thread alone...'to my ears...'

To my ears, Boston does do a good job at certain instruments moreso than some other I have heard. As well as DLS. I'm sure I could find other brands as well but who here has listened to every brand? And when they state the ones they have heard, people get butt itchy claiming bias.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif
