i think im just going to step down from the 17" screen and xtra (hd) and graphics card a bit and just do something a lil cheaper... basic..

80 GB hd

512-1GB ram

nice vid card

cd/dvd burner

On the hp dv5000z i m coming to around $800 .. Its just easier i guess than dumping $2000 into a laptop when ill be buying a new desktop in a year or 2.. so now the under 1000 options are open again.. I really do appreciate everyones help tho,.. Leardned quite a bit .. Even tho its not showing at the moment

im almost 100% on what im going with now.. I'll make sure my desktop is top notch when i get a new one in the next year or two.. I got so excited about getting a new toy i just wanted to go a lil overboard with it.. But heres what im leaning towards

Get 1 GB of RAM ... 512 MB is borderline useless these days ...
Something I can totally agree with... unless running Linux or keeping a well tuned PC. I could play FEAR with 512, but I upgraded to a gig anyway, it thrashed like crazy. Still does with a gig, something I'm really curious about.

That 750 laptop is MORE than capible of doing anything you need it to, sans gaming - just so long as you don't run macafee or Norton, but who in their right minds would runs those bloted pieces anyway? A bump up to 512mb would make it a fairly decent machine, again, sans gaming.

Hell, one could EASILY get away with using a 1.6ghz p4 with 256mb of ram still.

Besides gaming, what are you using that could be that much of a requirement?

Like i said im not using it for much other than movies, Internet, music, Downloading, and Termlab for the most part-- Which is why im buying one in the first place //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif .. And whats wrong with the norton and macafee

Sorry for quoting myself but .. of these 2 which onewould i need.. Why? and is there anything between the 2 thats better or worse...

Go with the 990 one with the core duo. The Pentium M chip walks all over the turion line of processors. It's no contest. Other than that, they look the same.

Oh, and Mcafee and Norton **** becase they are resource hogs and are ineffective and provide lots of services that nobody really needs.

edit: typo on the price
