Dell Computer, Dual Operating Systems???

Ok, I just got a Dell from friend and it has 2 operating systems in it. Windows XP and Windows 2000 Professional. How the hell do I get the Windows 2000 out of it so I just run the XP version??? I can seem to figure it out...Thanks for the help...

When its booting you should have the option

I have the option to choose, but I want the Win 2000 version out my system...

I was told there was a way to remove it but dont know how...

well I am not sure about complete removal but I know that you can go into windows xp and remove 2k from the menu so that you dont have to choose the OS every time.

WARNING: If you delete the wrong selection or modify any section wrong your pc will become unbootable.

Start>Run> then type msconfig and hit enter

now you will see a window with a few tabs click teh BOOT.INI tab and remove the first line under [operating systems] it should say

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows 2000" /noexecute=option /fastdetect

or somthign vary simular. once you have removed that line click ok and reboot and your problem should be solved

once u use the gui to edit and save the changes you should be able to reboot and have it be finished. if not try booting into safemode and editing it. you can get into safe move by hitting f8 repeatedly before you boot into windows xp.

worse case you could always just install a freash copy of windows XP it is vary simple assuming you know where to download the version of what you currently have installed and that your serial key is legit

Pop in a windows xp setup disk and boot from it.

Im sure that if it has 2 operating systems it has 2 seperate partitions on the hard drive. The Windows xp setup gives you an option to install, remove, or repair copys of windows. Each partition will have a seperate operating system associated with it. Should list like, or something close to...

Delete the partition with the Windows 2000 operating system and your computer will automatically boot with Windows XP and 2000 will be gone.
