I have the 860mp and honestly after about the first week you don't even care about the OEL display. I made a few movies, some came out alright but most of them were not all that great. You might also want to check out the movies and BGVs on this site. My only complaint with the unit so far has been the infamous Pioneer ground trace problem. Fortunately it only took like 3 days to get repaired and it is no better than ever. Audio wise, it has been great. The 13 band eq is nice and time alignment is pretty straight forward. Actually, if you are looking to buy one these I might be selling mine in the near future. The only difference between the 8600mp and the 860mp, is that the 860mp has 6.5 volt preouts and a 3 way crossover network. If you are interested, shoot me a PM.

Like msimon said, you dont even care about the display after about a week.

Its not like you watch your H/U while driving.

the thing I like about the OEL display is, the hu can be mounted in any angle and can still read the display in the day or night, not like other hu's with a normal display.

...except for BioLite (thats the whole reason for Alpine offering that display). I had one of my friends who is really into video editing make me a video for my 860 and it never worked. Since then I never cared, got sick of the videos and just set it to a plain black and white background. As long as you have a PC (I have a mac) you should be able to get it to work and develop your own opinion though.

depends how much you care about tuning. what prices can you get for the 7700/860?

and yes, the screensavers are dumb IMO.

and i can get an 8600mp from them for 350 shipped with kit

its up to you, i think 8600 is easier to operate than the 1 knob on the 7700, 8600 is cool to make people go "WOW" but the screensaver get anoying at night i hate when it starts flashing stuff, but i sold the 860 and now have a clarion 955 which i like alot better than my 860, and the display is nice and simple not all the fancy moving things, you can do a plain background in a choice of a couple colors and the menu system on the touchscreen is cool

in that case, 7700. that's a big price difference and if you dont care too much about tuning, then you probably wont need the 8600.
