Deck installation accessories

Do I need these if I already have a HU installed and I want to upgrade? Right now, I have a Pioneer Deh-2400, if I upgrade to say a Kenwood unit, will they have different wiring harnesses, etc.

Some stores offer a free harness/mounting kit, but do I really need those? In other words, is that just trying to pull more people to buy from them, or for the most part, will everything I need come with the deck in the box?

The wiring harness for each specific unit will be different...the harness that plugs into the back of your 2400 will not plug directly into the back of any Kenwood unit.

If you already have a DEH-2400 installed then obviously the correct mounting space for a single-DIN head unit is already present. Free accessories are a marketing gimmick, yes, but a useful one if those items are something you're going to need such as a fresh install in a new car or something.

As far as buying a new unit altogether, the proper mounting sleeve for the Kenwood (assuming that is what you replace it with) and the right head unit wiring harness will be in the box with the new stereo, correct.
