Yeah the series definitely matters but I would hope for that price you were talking about BTL's. We would also need to know what series BTL they are.

I would guess we're probably talking about older series...like the old triple stack (which is what I have), then I think the originals were also different.

I wouldn't do that. They are the UFO style motors.

Ask him to play them or if he can't at the very least take a DMM and check the coils. Set it to impedance (the little ohm symbol) then put the probes in the terminals (one set at a time) and it should give you a reading for the coil which should be like 1, 2, or 4 ohms.
