ddz1 getting hot

alright i have a dd z1 to .5ohm ....... i have 3 deka 9's and a 250 amp alt

when i turn it up pops off and turns on right away (clipping maybe?) but it has a clip light and it dot go off or anything. would it not show it in the light when that low of load?

volts dont drop below 12.8 at idle

voltage is low bro, might need some more wire to the back? check see if your batteries are good? lower the voltage the more amps the amp draws more current equals more heat

my volts dont even go lower then 12.8 at full

what is the DC Resistance (DCR) of the speaker combination measured at the amp? disconnect the speaker wires and measure DCR with a DMM. 0.5 is a very low impedance load and you may be dropping lower than that at some frequencies, causing the amp to go into protect...

or you may have a few wire strands shorting out...

i think the dcr when i checked it the first time i had it was at like .56ohms

My Z1 would click off too if over-driven. I'm also not sure if they like low impedances for extended periods of time either. I suppose it depends on which edition of the amp you have.

i mean for a little bit it worked awesome then bamm out of no where....... and guy i got it from ran it at .5 daily at one time so idk

any ideas in how to fix it

at 2 ohm it didnt seen loud for some reason even turned up to clip
