DDM on a PDX Amp

Anybody do thier gains with a DMM on one of the new PDX amps?

If so, how did you do it?

Can you use a DMM on the speaker wire from the amp that I would put into the X-over instead of using the speaker outputs on the amp? With these new PDX amps, they are not the usual screw type but rather more like USB plugs

i agree about using your ears. that method works fine as long as you know you won't be close to clipping the amps. if you have plenty of headroom then just set them by ear and level match.

i know that once you go active, using a dmm is worthless. not saying your setup is run active(it doesn't appear to be) but just saying.

No not active (yet anyways)

However, If someone could answer my questions, regarding using the speaker wire to measure with the DMM, then I would appreciate.

I don't see how you're confused. You have to hook your speakers up using wires correct? Your DMM's leads are wires correct? How can you not figure this out?
Why is there always a smart *** to some guys question?

If you can not give a descent answer to a question, no one wants to hear from you. Period - Got it? Or should I spell that out for you??

To answer your dumb questions, All I have read was to do it from the speaker outputs on the amp. Every amp that I have come across has these types of connections. Thus my question on these new amps I bought. It would be hard to touch the DMM to the amps the way that I will have them mounted (vertically behind my rear seats in my truck) so I thought about doing it with the speaker wires leading from the amp after the install. I was not sure, so I ask a question on this forum. Is that not why we all go to this forum....to learn what we do not know or are not sure of????? Does that answer YOUR DUMB QUESTION????

Yes, Dad. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

If you were looking for help, being a smartass back doesn't get you anywhere. Yes, he was being a dick. His question though wasn't that dumb because I was wondering the same thing myself...why couldn't you just do it the normal way?

But you explained it to us in such a nice way. Thanks man! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Lawlz at the irony.
Please allow me to retort...

Irony yes, for sure. I may have gone a bit of the end in my response, but for me in these forums, as well as many others, are looking for a simple answer to a questions and for someone to say that I was confused, which I was not confused but rather did not know if it was ok just to hook it up to the speaker wire versus the actual speaker output on the amp, seemed to me to be a smart ***. Others may have thought that as well but did not insult me.

A simple yes, that is ok to do or no do not do it that way because.... is the answer I would have preferred.

Some people just don’t even come close to answering a posters question. That is when I get confused - LOL

Thanks for letting me know, in your own way, that it is ok for me to do it the way I was thinking of doing it. It will make my install so much easier. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsup.gif.3287b36ca96645a13a43aff531f37f02.gif

A simple "yes" or "no" is not always the best answer for the question. The best answer for this question is to ditch the DMM for your speaker amp and use your ears. You didn't like this answer.

And those dumb questions were rhetorical. I was hoping you would understand that and get the fact that I was trying to help you understand -- why you could use a DMM at the end of the speaker wire. But, you were too busy getting mad to understand. I guess the original question should have tipped me off that you can't process easy thoughts.

How am I supposed to know how Knowledgeable he is?

I was not asking if my ears are to be used or not, my question was simple. Can I use the speaker wires to get the gains I need for my speakers? My ears have nothing to do with my question. You or some else might set their gains with your ears, but I was not going to.

No one knows how my install looks. I would have to be 6 inches tall to get at these new speaker inputs to use a DMM (and that is what I read on how to do the gains from THIS SITE). My amps are vertical on the back wall of my F350 behind the seats. They are impossible to reach. So I was asking about the speaker wires which are easy to get at.

For my particular question, a yes or no answer would suffice. I get so tired of reading posts where the experts or people who are knowledgeable rant on about stuff that has nothing to do with the OP thread. We are not all experts and that is why we come to these forums. For help. Not to be beaten around the bush, be insulted for our lack of knowledge in particular area, given answers that have nothing to do with our questions or what you would do with your equipment.

So NO, "The best answer for this question is to ditch the DMM for your speaker amp and use your ears." this is NOT the best answer to my question. That is not what my question was.
