DC Team lvl 5 hybrid recone questions

when you say street beat you mean a passband of like 30-70 that loud as ****? or you rather have something peakier around 40-50hz?

biggest thing is getting a coil that will fit TIGHT in the motor. Id use some 9-10" progressives(you can get away with 8" on a 3" vc but i perfer the larger ones as they are more linear when you push them very hard..). i prefer to use separate spider landings with two stiff mirrored spiders per landing for better linearity.

really it boils down to what the MMS of the driver is coil length and how low of a QE you can get with a coil not designed for that woofer.

for a good street bea woofer you want a FS around 30-32 and QES around .4-.5 and the lower your MMS the more efficent your driver will be. you also want at least 30mm xmax with 4 KW so keep that in mind.

Just lookin to play music daily and have as flat of a response curve as possible. From what DC told me this motor has a tighter gap than a standard lvl 5...and from what I recall the tc baskets have a 10" spider landing, I also have the spider spacers if I end up needing them. Just having trouble finding someone to build a pair of recones

its been a while since i built a woofer. but its hard to get just a few parts. maybe rusty can get you some spiders.. if i was you Id probably stick to a long as hell 4 layer coil(around 75mm if you can find one).if i recall the longest ive seen without being custom was 65mm which wouldn't be long enough for 4 k per tuned low. see what you can find and check your gap OD and ID. 10" offer aitt more throw but usually have a lower stiffness.. Id suggest at least 4 hards to start. they tend to break down after a few weeks of play.. granted they are 3" coils correct?

i think someone had a 78 or 82mm 8 layer coil at one time.. for 4 kw per woofer you need a 8 layer coil thats pretty tall in winding length,, david might beable to help or the other guys mentioned here. i dont know them but i'm sure others do.

i prefer personally to use 4 layer coils and increase diameter for increased power-handling but the 8 layer 3" very long coils should handle the 4k if you have a stable and adequate electrical system and properly set your gains. really just depends on the impedance rise..
