Dayton HO 10

I want a sub i can use in a small enclosure. Dayton recommends 1.2 cubic feet for the HO 10. This will be a good size. Would that be a ported or sealed enclosure. Also could I go with maybe a .8 to 1.0 cubic foot enclosure. And what should I tune the enclosure to?

I coulda swore tcguy85 was running one of these in 0.7ft^3 with an external port tuned down to low 30 something maybe. 1.2 just sounds a bit big to me for that woofer or a single 10 unless of course ported. Lots of choices though for that size of an enclosure. Many 12's will work in that sealed and I am sure many 10's ported or go even small for a sealed 10. Heck even an IDQ15 v2 will work with that airspace.

TC, did you ever try the dayton sealed? I don't remember reading if you did or not but I am thinking you didn't. Just curious is all, Wondering how 4 of them would work behind my seat in about 2.2 cubes sealed.

i have been looking at these also, and i am pretty sure they are much more capable as a ported box woofer. If you have 2.2 cubes or a little more, run three ported, and you should be happy. Bass_lover on here said he liked the SQ and the output more of two Dayton 10's over his ported XXX15.

Try the new SI Magv4 12, and let us know how you like it. It should be quite happy

sealed in .9 cubes net.

net means after port and sub. Gross is before. As I understand it, PE's recommendations are gross volumes, and then they tell you how large and long the port should be. it probably comes out to about .7 net.

It isn't on there you have to email them or do that online help line thingy...if they still have it.

Regardless, the sizes they tell you are a bit off IMO. IIRC they recommended me 1.8 cubes sealed which is quite a bit larger than I would ever think of using. The 12" HO I had prior, didn't like 1.2 sealed so I knew that their recommendation was pretty far off. Though for a low powered home audio app I'm sure that would work, but then again, that's what the HF is for.

Aim for .6-.7 cubes after all displacements, IE port and driver, tune it to 30hz with 10-12 sq inches of port, and you will be set.

Also if you're interested I'm selling my pair and the box that was built specifically for them. LMK.

Going from memory, since the setups were installed about 2 years apart from each other, and I have vastly different front stages paired up with each drivers, but they had a similar sound.

The box I had the 12 in was a bit too large for it, and the enclosure for the 10s is nearly perfect IMO, so the comparison isn't really fair. I like the 10s quite a bit more for that reason. The 12 in a .8 cube sealed enclosure in a small hatchback or ext. cab truck would probably be enough if you just want to fill in the bottom end a little bit. The pair of 10s on the other hand, in the proper ported enclosure should satisfy the majority of people, unless of course you're looking for obnoxiously loud.

It really comes down to what you're looking for. The single 12 is going to be easier to push to its limits if you want decent output, a pair of the 10s need a harder push to reach the limits but up to that point the output is very pleasing with a controlled but not over bearing sound.
