i have 90 eclipse & a pda (palm iiix) which i use for a datalogger. the datalogging software is called mmcd & i love it. recently though i have been re-thinking my whole stereo & electronics setup. i was thinking of gettting rid of my multidisc cd-changer & getting a stereo receiver that plays mp3 files or an ipod music file via an external input. then i got to thinking why not swap out my pda too with one that can do both datalogging & play mp3 files? my goal is to have a pda with mmcd datalogger loaded on it that i could also plug into my (car) stereo receiver to listen to the stored mp3 files. is this do-able??
i have researched pricegrabber (& similar sites) for pda's which also handle mp3 files. the list i saw from those searches did not match this list of pdas which can operate the datalogging software: http://mmcdlogger.sourceforge.net/#Palm%20Support
i think the pda must have serial connection ports (or accept serially transmitted data) for data logging from my car's ECU? i think the OBD-I protocol is to transmit data serially. as i said earlier, i prefer to use a palm unit since i already have the accessories for it (cradle, cable & right-fitting connectors/adapters, etc.). however, i would definitely get another one if it offers all 3 basic things i need (datalog, mp3 player, able external output to another source)
i noticed on the list from the link above that one of the compatible units is a "palm tungsten w". anyone familiar with this unit? will it play mp3 files & fit the accessories (cable & connectors used with the palm iiix?
please help.
