Dash Mountable Remotes?

This one cat at my work said he thinks it is pointless to use these on his amps...he threw them away when he got his amps...I am not familiar with these at all...do any of you use these when they come with your amps...what exactly are there purposE?
i think they are pointless too...if i'm correct, they are just like bass boost and they just end up distorting your subs and possibly cause them to clip...

They can control different things. Some amps have remote gain control, some have remote bass boost control. I don't find either useful, as i set gains to match output levels from my deck and forget about them...and can adjust my bass level simply by adjusting my bass channels' output on my deck instead of boosting the signal artificially at a specific frequency.

The remote gain controls allow you to turn down the gain on the amp they are connected to. The maximum gain is set on the amp, so if you set that gain correctly with the remote gain at full volume, you won't have to worry about clipping. Remote bass boost, like any bass boost IMO is totally pointless.
