Dang it. I blew my subs.

Any one wanna buy a pair of JL 10's? They'd make good paper weights or tire blocks.
Give us some details...box/amp/gains etc...how long did you have it for?

I don't know which model they were.

I bought them used and the only thing I can mae out on the magnets is "500watts MAX"

I was only pumping them with 450 each, but from the looks of things the voice coil separated from the cone (the coil still moves but independantly of the cone).

Sux but hey I was looking for a reason to go to Edmonton anyway.

Try audiobahn... well I think you should, there ALUM's are good subs.. Actually I DID blow 1, but I sent it along with 8 bucks and got a brand new one over nighted (Took about 1 week for whole transaction) They have Very Deep bass in enclosures

the 450watts max might be the reason. it seems you were sending 450 watts each, and if the subs are ratead at 500 max, i would prob say that they rated at 300rms. And if your gains were not set properly, your subs will blow.

Let's not start dissing JL audio. I know they very overpriced but they can still make some good quality products.

I was only half serious. I was saying that completely based on the many times I've read on the forum about what to do with a blown JL, and how they sound to my ears. Sure, they potentially have good SQ reproduction, but the enclosures I have heared are only ported and bandpass, and they sound like shit, frankly.

I have nothing really against JL, though. Only against the people who insist on porting them and bandpassing them. (and overpowering them, because clearly it's a big risk)

In my experience blowing up JL subwoofers; their lower end models W0-W6 will blow easily yes even though they're not overly sensitive. This is because most people buy a JL sub and expect earth shattering SPL; when they don't get this from the sub naturally they force the subwoofer that is where a JL subwoofer W0-W6 will break. Yes, despite that JL gives specs their W0-W6 subs do not do terribly well in poorly designed ported enclosures, and I would never use one of them in a bandpass application(I would never use anything in a bandpass), but they do extremely nice in a well-designed ported enclosuring running off of a proper subwoofer amplifier using a subsonic filter(which if you use them ported is extremely necessary). Anyways I know this is a bit lengthy; the W7 is bulletproof as they say though; you would have to be extremely abusive or extremely stupid to break a W7 subwoofer, and yes JL stuff is expensive, but hey you get what you pay for, also I've never paid for replacement on a busted JL product either. Thats my 5 cents.
