I have recently had the opportunity to run a Pioneer DEX-P99RS. And I'm in lust with it. It is sweet. The problem is that the single DIN Metra install kit doesn't look very nice up against the P99. Additionally, the trim ring that came with the radio can't be used because the combination of that with the Metra install kit means that the front face has trouble coming back up after laying down for putting a CD in or removing the face for security. Currently, because of this, it is installed without the trim ring and it just doesn't look all that nice. And if you know this unit, it's a good looking unit. It's a shame that it has to look so bad.
So here's what I need some help with:
I'm contemplating buying a 18"x24" sheet of plexiglass, cutting it to match the full opening, then spray painting (or something similar) the back of the plexiglass so that the end result looks more like the faceplate of the P99. Attached is a picture of the unit at a slight angle so you can kind of see what I'm talking about.
My questions:
1. I haven't yet tried to measure the thickness of the faceplate but how thick of a piece of plexiglass do you think I'd need?
2. Do you think that spray paint or some kind of black contact cement would work on the back of the plexiglass?
3. Any ideas on how to best integrate the plexiglass onto the existing Metra install kit so that I don't have to build the entire thing from scratch?
4. Do you think this would turn out well?
Any thoughts or advice would be welcomed.
Thanks,
Jeremy
