Custom MP3 Holder Worklog Summary
I don’t have anything else interesting to post. So I thought that I’d show a quick summary of the MP3 player holder I had to make for my car. With this iPod craze, it’s nice to know that there are options for other MP3 players that might not be blessed with fancy third-party in-car devices. One such example is my 40GB Creative Zen Touch. I didn’t want it to sit forever in my cupholders, so one day in Home Depot, I came up with a plan… //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
It’s a pretty simple procedure for those familiar with fiberglassing. To summarize:
1) Tape up the player first with Painter’s Tape, then with several layers of Duct Tape. (I used 2 layers of each.)
2) Spread Vaseline over the tape. Then apply several layers of fiberglass to the taped device.
3) Remove the MP3 player, trim the mold, and apply Body Filler to cover surface imperfections.
4) Paint the holder.
5) Add a felt lining to the inside, so that the paint doesn’t wear onto the sides of the player over time.
All fiberglassed up:
Player removed and mold trimmed:
First test fit:
