Custom Installs/Trunks in New Jersey

yup , actually a thin piece of fiberboard- you can carpet it, perhaps even formica the front of it- you can also make the cutout around the sub enclosure any shape you like...i.e

Or you can formica the front of the sub box, then add the carpeted bezel in front with an eye shaped cut out-

Havent finished my bezel yet, but here's what my box looks like....

Nice man. You doing this work yourself?

You think instead of a thin pc of fiberboard that I use use 3/4 mdf. Cuz like I said I've seen designs for the XXX and they double up on the wood in the front inside, not sure why, does this add more support or something.

And when should I do the carpet? Before I install or after? Cuz you would have to drill it into place no? ANd why would you carpet then drill. Or is there another way to mount it?

if you want to incorporate the bezel into the box you could i guess, but technically its a finishing touch after the enclosure is made- you frame it around the edges of the enclosure with a window opening for the woofer(round , oval, your pick) and you secure it at the end via screws into the edges where the bezel touches the trunk

For a bezel 3/4in will be quite too much and heavy to boot, could also take away bass response going into the cabin being a trunk and all- typically its thin fiberboard or 1/4" plywood

Oh, ok, so you would carpet it before you install it then screw it into the edges? What kinda screws? and what do they actually screew into?

Thanks for your help

You can drive a few screws into the enclosure from the bezel and this in most applications is sufficient as long as the bezel is well cut and lines up tighly against the trunk liner- BUT not knowing how long(wide) your box will be, there may be a lot of dead space on both sides since you are running a single sub, one screw on each end of the bezel through the trunk liner into sheetmetal should be enough

if the bezel is carpeted you will not notice screws as they blend into dark colored carpet
