i went to a local shop to see if they could do some custom door panels so i can add 2 more component 6 1/2's on each door..im at a standstill in my system i did everything myself but i cant do the whole fabrication and custom stuff that this involves i have to much bass and this is my only choice if i want to move foward and add more mid/highs..anyways they wana charge me 678 which they said would be 10 hours of work at 65 an hour..is this legit or what? thanks guys

5 hours each door sounds like a reasonable rate if its quality work... i'd ask to see some of their work and shop around a bit and see who you think does the best work at the best price. But 5 hours sounds about right as far as labor goes.

Depends on the extent of the fabrication. Doors can be tedious. I'd say 200-400 per door depending on the amount done, quality of the work. Does the quoted price include materials?

i paid 250 for these and there just mdf wrapped in vinyl. notice he also did the door accent too.

yes it includes everything exept instalation of the speaker itself

By this do you mean that your custom panels are going to be MDF wrapped in vinyl? If so, there's no way they're worth 650+. I thought you were talking fiberglass.
As did I. Fiberglass is no fun to handle and costs a fair amount.

For MDF, I'd expect to pay a lot less. Or do it yourself and save even more?

you need establish a general idea about what you want done. I used a 3/4 inch piece of birch , then cut a hole in it that matched some existing holes in my door frames. Then I had to mark out and measure and mark and measure over and over until I had the general idea and spot picked out. I cut through the door panel and then figured how far I wanted it to pop out. Then I took the birch MDF board off the door and set some ring baffels on dowls and glued and nailed in to place and test fitted it over and over until I had exact angles and matching door pods..... After that, thats when you stretch cloth over the skeleton and work on your conture and finish. The fiber glass gives it alot more sturctual integrity... IMO.
