Custom baffles or fiberglass (kick panels or A-Piller mounts) Need help!

Hey guys, I am getting ready to install a new set of DLS 6 & 1/2" mids and 1" tweeters in my 02 Ford Explorer and need some advise on the best way to mount them. I do not want to simply use the factory locations as I believe that there are better options. So basically what I am trying to decide is whether I should build a custom baffle and enclosure for mounting to either the A-Pillers or make a custom baffle and enclosure that I could mount like a kick panel. I am also open to the idea of fiber-glassing the A-Piller or fiber glassing some kick panels.

I am a decent woodworker, but have never worked with fiber glass. The problem is that if I build some custom baffles and enclosures for the kick panel area or A-Piller area, I have zero ideas of how to make the shape or angle of the enclosures?

As far as fiberglass goes, If I understand this correctly...You basically have to make a mold of shape that you are trying to build, right? I have been looking at how to fiber glass on You tube, and there are some interesting A-Piller and Kick panel builds, but I am still not grasping how to make the shape or angles of the end result.

Any help that you guys could possibly provide me with would be absolutely wonderful. I would even pay someone for their help and advise! Appreciate any possible help that you guys can provide!

Thanks!

Ok. If you could possibly glass 6.5s in the pillar, and actually tune them (which would take longer than you'd imagine), I'd say go for it.

But to be more realistic, I'd go with kicks. I'm still running my first set of kicks, also first time I've worked with fiberglass.

Read a quote one time "once you go floors, you'll never go doors"

All the experts are doing this, there's a reason. Kick panels sound amazing. And angling options are almost unlimited. There's just no better place for mids than the kicks, for a hundred reasons.

I would strongly recommend you do this without haste, your missing out as we speak.

And don't let fiberglass scare you, all you do is mix it (follow instructions), paint it on, and let it harden. (Kicks are easy, other things probably not so easy). Just don't get it on your car.

Here's the vid i used to help me make them. Only video you should need. Only one i needed.

Here's my kick build. (Well re do later, look ugly but they sound so dam good!)

Kick panels finished, almost.

Good luck. You'll be glad you did.
