"Guns don't just shoot by themselves" is a central tenet of the pro-gun argument, and has been expressed probably thousands of times, ESPECIALLY when gun control comes into the forefront of the news. It falls right in line with the "guns don't kill people; people kill people" phraseology.

"Accidental discharge"? A drunk guy pulls a gun and aims it at his daughter, but HE just happens to be among the 4/10,000% of people with a Glock that has fired accidentally?
That sounds an awful lot like the excuse the right-wingers immediately made up for the shooting of Alex Pretti: "His gun is known to discharge by itself, and went off while sitting on the driver's seat of a police vehicle, so they had to shoot Alex in the head".
