Current Draw

More power doesn't necessarily mean more current draw, correct? I know my 1501d draws current like crazy, but if I were to search for a solid 2000 watt amp to power my next system, is there anyway I could find an amp that wouldn't draw much more current if any at all? Thanks.

Well, efficiency is a factor in determining current draw.

But you are likely going to have increased current draw from increasing power by that much, even if the higher powered amplifier is more efficient.

For example....a 1500w amplifier that is only 30% efficient is going to draw 185A on a 13.8V electrical system at full output. A 2000w amplifier that is 60% efficient (double the efficiency) is going to draw 202A on that same 13.8V electrical system.

Those numbers are just for example purposes....but it shows you that the increased power has a larger effect on current draw than a large increase in efficiency. And chances you'll have *that* big of an efficiency difference between the two amplifiers is slim.
