Curious power question

I was wondering, they say a 12 L7 fed 700 watts is close to a 12 xxx at 1500w, i was wonder why exactly that happens, is it the L7 shape? or is it just that more effecient, and i kno the L7 is an spl subs and the xxx is scl but i was just curious with that big of power difference that they keep up with each other?
