Curious question about this casino business.
Say we play cards and I win a few hands...

Am I allowed to just walk away with my money? For instance, when I used to shoot dice with the people up the street, it was customary that you give the opponet an opportunity to win their money back, else they'd re-acquire it using violent measures. I don't see much violence coming into play, but is it against the rules to walk away if you win a hand?
Absolutely. You can walk away antime you want.

Waht you can't do is put some of your chips in your pocket and continue playing. You play for table stakes, whiich means two things. First, you can't reach in your pocket and buy more chips in the middle of your hand. Second, your chips stay on the table until you are through playing.

If you leave the table, you are supposed to buy back in for at least the same amount you left with (I think that applies for up to 2 hours, but it is never an issue for me. If I leave I get up I am usually gone for the day -- unless I am just changing tables anyway.)

Can you elaborate on this?
if you sit down and play with $200. you play one hand and win $100 more. you now have $300 and decide to get up and leave. if you change your mind and want to play again in the next 2 hours you have to buy-in for $300. the amount you left with.

we're going to play for hours though. this is a mute point.

What does the term "buy in" mean? I assume in means to convert cash to chips.
Based on the "table stakes" idea...

You win the $100 and decide to come back, you must put $300 on the table, as eligble for betting.

This trumps the idea I had of segregation of money...as in once I won one time, I would play the rest of the time with someone else's money. I can still do it. I just have to segregate it in my head rather than on a table. What, if any, objects are you allowed to have with you? I know it is against the rules to count cards, but what about counting victories? etc?
yeah, buy-in is exactly that.

you wont need anthing except your mind. youll have the advantage on most people aleady. im sure me and WSW can give you a pre-game talk that will help.

I see.

I am more interested in craps than the poker. Reason being is the math payoff is higher with more exotic bets. However, I am not sure what is proper etiquette. Say, I think the next roll the guy is going to crap out....can I make such a bet (on the street you can)...will the guy be upset about it (on the street he will)
Yes you can bet almost anything in craps. They may be a little upset but nothing will happen.

But I would suggest blackjack for you flip, especially your first time at the casino.

After reading more, it seems I am supposed to tip the guy I am betting against. wtf?
So, if I beat you, I then return some of the money. This is craziness. Perhaps this could be a good spectator sport.
What game are you referring to? I have never tipped anyone after beating them. I will however throw a tip to the dealer if I am getting good cards.
