In a sense, yes. They aren't irrational. If we were to have this conversation in the early 90s I would be right on the fence with you about how superior imports are. Of course even then I couldn't buy them due to my own false sense of patriotism and family loyalty, but would have agreed to their subpar quality. In this day and age though the lines between domestic/import and the technology/platforms they use are so shared and near identical that I can't call either superior.IaM, did you grow up around auto manufacturing? I am just trying to make sense of your irrational views on domestic v. imports.
I hear yah, I certainly would prefer to buy domestic, but I just have this overwhelming feeling that I am going to kick myself for going against my own experience. I just have never had a bad foreign car.In a sense, yes. They aren't irrational. It's understood. In this day and age it all boils down to the deal you get for the type of car you want. I have a certain loyalty to GM that others don't and get great deals on them so it goes that way. With many imports being assembled here and many domestics being assembled elsewhere the false patriotism aspect is a moot point in choosing a car. I really do like the Camry the wife got for her new business lease. I just couldn' t buy one with our own money.I hear yah, I certainly would prefer to buy domestic, but I just have this overwhelming feeling that I am going to kick myself for going against my own experience. Yeah, that cross assembly or whatever kinda goes both ways doesn't it. By buying Toyota you are feeding a guy in TN ow wherever, when you buy "American" you are also supporting a plant in who knows where. It's understood. There is more than one section to this forum noob.Huh?
It also uses a Variable belt transmission. They never have the same feel of pull to them. I am not a fan of belt transmissions. They feel lifeless.Yeah, that cross assembly or whatever kinda goes both ways doesn't it. I did get a little pissed at American Autos for apparently not even trying for a number of years.
BTW, I looked at the Ford 500 before I bought my last car. The size, roominess, interior, etc all looked great. then I drove it and it had no pickup. I later learned that they had basically just dropped the old Taurus engine in. Undersized and shitty to begin with.
