The fact that it is worth something shows the meaning. If I really didn't care, I would have stuck to the limit. The fact that I surpassed it shows that I care. At least that is the way I see it. Hopefully, that thought is communicated to her somehow.

The way she'll probably see it is that you're just trying to impress her with your finances. Finding a woman who is actually impressed by this leads down a very dark road.

For instance, she said my initial gift would be okay. Her voice did not indicate it would be satisfactory.

We already discussed the pre-nup issue and it went about as bad as this, so I dropped it (like this issue). Fortunately, TN does not recognize common law marriages.

In all honesty, because I think it is a nice gift and want her family to know I am serious. I would figure a significant investment in a Christmas gift would signal my intentions.
I guess I need to brush up...however, I don't think she would sign any type of contract that would hold her liable in the case of her indiscretion, whereas I would not hesitate to sign such a contract. Initially, that is a cause for concern. But I am unsure.
