The big money is buying your own truck and using a broker to get you the runs you need.Because I hate business. I enjoy driving, and truck drivers make 35,000 starting out with benefits, and truck drivers are still in demand, even in bad economic areas like Detroit. Truck driving school is only 1-2 months long, then I'm ready to begin.
its kind of the same way starting out at a stripper..or **********The big money is buying your own truck and using a broker to get you the runs you need.
if people paid me $50k/year to tow my 4wheelers on a trailor behind my truck..id do it.I know but I need experience first. A rookie driver just can't buy a rig and be a pro. I need to be in the field before I start buying trucks. After a couple years I could making 50k working for a company. Why spend thousands of dollars on school, to get a 50k job and be in debt, when I can spend a couple grand, and do something that I may enjoy?
i dunno. all the documentaries on tv say the average truck driver works 40hrs/wk and make $38-$42kWhat do you mean? Truck drivers get paid good money. If I buy my own rig, the average driver will make 100k. Working for a company I could earn 50k and have full benefits. I really think it boils down to the fact that saying you are a truck driver is not as prestigious as saying you are some executive title.
Because the education will help you inthe long run. BTW, yes you can just buy a truck. Just like anything, you get a loan. Business loan for something like that. Pay it off while you drive. Yes your take will be smaller to begin with, but when paid off it comes back to pay for itself again and again. Why start small? It's go big or go home IMO. If you come out driving for like schneider or something, you will become complacent and just maintain that level.I know but I need experience first. A rookie driver just can't buy a rig and be a pro. ahhh..never really looked into itthat's the average starting wage. After 5 years you can make upwards of 50k, and it all depends on what size load you transport, and if it's inter or intra state.
50k is still looking at the small picture. You pay off one truck and buy another one and hire a shmoe to drive and reap the profits. Rinse and repeat until you command a fleet of them.that's the average starting wage.
