I am buying a 2002 crown vic with 75k miles in mint condition tomorrow silver on outside with black leather. It has the police package so it has some good power and stiff suspension, but I want to do it big with the SPL. I havent been in the game for about a year now but was wondering if RD audio was still on the map? If so what would you guys reccomend other than the RD hw most likely in the 15" version?

For you guys that have a crown vic or have seen there trunk space would I be better off spending the money on 2 15"s or running 1 in a huge enclosure? I would run around 4k watts, and I already have plenty of huge batts and beefy electrical, so would it be a good idea to spend an extra 600 or so on another 15"?

As for an amp that will do 4k watts at 1ohm is there anything new out that would be an good idea to look into? What about 2 crunch gp 3000's I know they dont put out exactly 3k rms but its in the ball park correct? 2 of them would be loud as hell and its always better to have more power so I can leave the gain down for a reliable daily stereo. The only downside on 2 amps would be the amount of wiring that would be extra, and trunk space.

As for some type of air flow to the cabin from the trunk what should I do? The rear seats dont fold down so is my only option to cut into the rear deck? Thanks alot guys I love this forum everyone is really helpful all input is greatly appreciated and will be taken into consideration. Work is boring as hell lets get a discussion going all you cv people.

I drove a 06 Crown Vic police interceptor for two months and my friend has a 98 Town Car, these cars aren't actually all that great for SPL unless you wall it. Yes you can always install the subs in the trunk and cut the rear deck open but believe me you'll have a lot of rattling going on in the trunk and no amount of sound deadener will help. If you look at the trunk you'll see there are barely any open space for the bass to go through into the cabin even if you remove the rear seats and I think part of the rear deck is structural support.

Do it big, wall that bish.

Thats sound like a good idea I mean **** its gonna be my girlfriends car we dont need to have anyone in the back seat anyways so ill prolly do that. The only thing is I dont really know how to build an enclosure like that lol Im used to building normal enclosures is it difficult? I would have to build it in the car correct?

You can consider having your lows in the rear deck like this guy:http://www.caraudio.com/forums/car-audio-build-logs-cars-trucks-suvs/448848-2000-grand-marquis-build.html. It looked good to me

Also once you "wall" a car the resale value goes to nothing unless you sell it to another car audio person, so plan on keeping the car once you do that.

Another thing to watch is when you wall the car make sure you leave enough space to replace factory wiring harness just in case if they go bad for some reason, i.e. brakelight wires and lightbulbs, fuel gauge wires, etc.

I did a pair of 10s under my rear deck between the gas tank and the rear deck when I drove a 1981 Crown Vic hooptie in my college days. It worked pretty good for what it was and was way better than putting a box on the floor of the trunk. That GD gas tank just blocks out so much sound.

If it was mine ...id do 2 15's or 4 12's in the trunk....and modify the rear deck as a giant vent but look stock....so your sound can go from the trunk into the cabin....
This.

Flexes windshield and doors, blurs your vision, hard to breath inside, feels like sticking pencils in your ears, etc.

Basically pretty loud for a trunk car. Cutting out rear deck is a must. I even took my back seat off of the side hooks to get a little more airflow. Be prepared to replace your trunk latch and have the metal around it welded. gp 3k's will do more than 3k on a solid electrical btw.

Or as another option you could be different and do 6 10's.

Hope this helps.

Heres my 03 vic

What I'm wanting to do pretty soon is get 4 SA-8's and put them on top of the gas tank on the little shelf, and have the port come through and be flush with the rear deck. Been working with pro-rabbit on that one, gonna be tricky but we'll get it to work

That and I (obviously) plan on deadening the hell out of that trunk when I do it all
