not a must but cool to have, sends certain freq to certain speakers.....sends lows to subs only (the bump), sends the high to the tweeters only and sends everything else in between to the midrange, am i right experts?

There are two kinds of X-overs: passive and active.

Passive ones are preset to certain freq. and usually come with the speakers. You can make them too but you have to know a lot about the electronics of the whole thing and have the proper equip. to do it.

Active ones have settings on them that you can change to what ever freq. you want to send to a certain speaker. (Kinda like the ones on the amps.)

ok well if your speakers came with passive crossovers but you are currently running them of and amp (or have a sub yet) should you leave them off so that you will still get some bass???

if you have a set of coaxils or components it well split the freq. between the tweeter and the woofer/midrange.

if your amp has a X-over, put in at full range and use the X-over that came with the speakers. Later you can tune the X-over on the amp to your liking. (if the amp's X-over is tunable.)
