Critical Mass

Okay, I'm re-doing the system in my '02 Avalanche. The component set in my front doors has been blown for about a year, and it's time to fix it. System was installed around Nov. '05.

My system:

Alpine CDA-9853 headunit with faceplate iPod glider control

Alpine KCA-420i iPod interface adapter, dock ran to glovebox

Alpine MRV-F345 door amp 75W X4 RMS

Alpine SPR-17LS R-series 6 1/2" components (front doors) 70W RMS 350W peak

Alpine SPR-17LP R-series 6 1/2" coaxials (rear doors) 50W RMS 250W peak

Alpine MRD-M605 sub amp 400W RMS mono

JL Audio midgate Stealthbox 2 12" subs I think it's rated at 800W RMS

All speaker and amp ratings at 4 ohms.

So far I got a good deal on Critical Mass RS6 coaxials for the rear doors and a C652 component set for the front doors. The CMA speakers are rated at 160W RMS for the coaxials and 200W RMS for the components, but is that total or per side? Specs don't really make it clear, and I don't want to destroy them by throwing too much amp at them. If the rating is per side I plan on upgrading my amps to around 115-125W per channel, and eventually adding a second C652 component set in Q-logic kick panel enclosures. Sub amp I plan on upgrading to 600-700W RMS.

Thoughts and opinions, please.

its per side and they sound great with less then rated power
Thanks man, I appreciate it.

I'm looking for more power than I have currently, and equal or better quality. These certainly seem to fit the bill. I really don't have a complaint with the Alpine R-types I've been running for 4 years(blown fronts notwithstanding), I just want more.

I actually have a second RS6 coaxial pair as well, and looking at the stock speaker enclosures I think there's a strong possibility I can fit two 6 1/2" coaxials in each rear door.......especially considering how shallow the RS6's are. I'll see how much room there really is when I take my doors apart, and even if I have to fab up a small 1/2"-3/4" spacer ring to fit the 2nd pair, I think I'll do it. Since I already have them anyway, I might as well find a use for 'em.

Amps I'm looking at are all from Diamond Audio. IF the 2nd pair of RS6s will fit in my rear doors, I'l go with two 4-channel amps. If not, I'll go with a 4-channel for the doors and a 2-channel for the kick panels.

Amps I'm looking at (4 ohms):

D6 700.4 115W X4

D6 450.2 125W X2

D5 600.2 600W X1 bridged for subs

The full plan will probably take me 4-6 months due to cash. For now, I'll replace the front and rear door speakers and keep using my current Alpine amps.
