Crimping vs. Solder

Solder looks so much better than crimps when done right, and is clean. When i wire up a HU harness, i take 2 pieces of big *** heatshrink, clear, that fits over the entire bundle of wires. Then i solder all my wires and heat shrink em. Then when im done, i heat up the 2 big *** pieces to make one solid strand lookin thing. Looks nice. My buddy asked me where i went to get my radio install cuz he saw how mine was done and thought it was professionally done. Ive also done this a few times and soldering is just easy for me.

You do cover up each solder point before you heat shrink them right???

I just go ghetto style and twist the wires together then tape them up.

I don't even kerrr.

heres a friendly tip. always remember to put the heatshrink on the wire first (as you wont be able to put it on after you make the connection. and heat the wire, not the solder.

personally i solder & electrical tape, although heatshrink would be better. They both look VERY professional when you've spiraled the wires around each other and cut all the wires involved to the same length.

twist the wires together, and hit it wire with the soldering iron, press the solder against the wire near the iron, but not touching... when the wire hits the melting temperature of the solder it'll start melting into the wire and moving through the joint via capilary action.

I wish i could get a pic of my old acura's wiring i did, but its at work and my camera is with my buddy and his new kid. Im gonna re-do everything in my 240, cuz im adding a 4 channel amp and comps.

As stated earlier, you would need a large soldering gun to get the job done on the bigger wire. I happen to own one of these bad boys //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

It gets extremely hot and solders about anything. Pick one up if you're going to go with solder.

I have one of those...is sucks badly

If you dont hold down the trigger it goes off

Its very clunky and much to large for normal applications
