Crazy midbass out of my PG RSD 6.5s??? Not so much...

I installed my set of PG RSD6.5's last week...

I don't want to write a full review, because others have done a pretty ample job at it. I agree that the highs are harsh, even when the x-over is set to +0db. What I DON'T agree with, is the CRAZY midbass everyone is talking about.

This is where my question stems...

My corolla door boot is tiny and there was little wiggle room, so I had to settle for some very small gauge wire (maybe 18 gauge or less). My doors are NOT sealed, nor deadened. I also did not use clay around the speaker rings. I can feel a little movement, but it doesn't really seem like they're working that hard.

I have these speakers running off the front channel of a kicker ZX700.5

Speaker wire is 14guage to the front kick panels, where the smaller wire goes to the doors from the kick panels, so the run with the tiny wire is VERY short (~2'). I have the bass set to +4 on my deck, and I still don't even really feel the bass on my legs even.

Do you think the gauge of the wire is affecting my midbass response? Or is there something else I'm missing?

I heard those speakers, they are slightly above average at best but

if you havent heard many systems they sound great........

U might have EQ issues....They have decent midbass from what I have listend too

Wow, what dont you get? review over review and you still dont realize you have to dedaen your doors? get 40 sq feet of deadener and go inside and out on your doors.. Did you mount your speaker ona peice of mdf? or just steel?

No, I realize that those are all factors, but wasn't aware of an order of magnitude.

I was expecting more of... "yes, the wire is a problem, increase the gauge and you'll notice a big difference."

The speakers were mounted on ABS speaker adapters with a 7/8" spacer. They are not mounted to the steel.

Deadining is a great thing....but it is a bandaid if your looking for it to

create all your midbass. I good souding speaker will give plenty of midbass

in a stock door-I am not saying you'll get all the midbass possible but you should still have

plenty....On the flip side, you can deaden your doors all you want on a Diamond HEX and

you wont get jackshit for midbass

When I had my CDT HD62s in my old sentra, when I first installed them just on an MDF ring no deadener, it was barely noticeable. Then I deadened/sealed the doors and mmmm my mids woke up. Make an MDF ring too, don't use that plastic stuff. IMO

Definitely put some deadening on your doors. I just used a Dynamat extreme speaker kit, so I just have the stuff around my mids, and even that made a huge difference. One day I will do my entire doors.

I don't think increasing the gauge of your wire will do too much.

Power might be a factor. You're only using 2 channels of the ZX700.5, which will give you about 2x70-80w rms at best. It's been reiterated time and time again that the RSd mids really wake up with around 150w rms each. Might be something to think about....

If you really wanted a nice setup you would have 14 gauge wires and have deadened your doors..
If I really had wanted a nice setup, I'd have done a LOT of things different. Thanks for the comment though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

I will eventually deaden the doors, but not when it's cold out. That's a spring project. I don't have the luxury of having a heated garage.

As for increasing the power, would that cause the tweeters to get even louder as well? I really can't stand much more treble out of this setup, or else my ears are going to start bleeding. I only have the gain up halfway-ish the way they are wired now.

I am a noob though, thus asking the questions here. If I'm way off base, just let me know. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

if you increase the power the whole system will get louder but make sure its clean unclipped power so you wont damage the system.

they definitely could use more power....I feed mine 125 watts each no problem. And I don't find the tweeters to be that harsh at all. I think you should play with the eq settings on your deck a bit and maybe you will find what you were looking for. And deadener does play a big part too.
