Coustic: Smokin' Plastic Audio

I put my friend's Coustic woofers (850 watts 4 ohm svc) in my car for the third time for s+g. Could turn them Up way more than the ones I have now, and I was having a grand old time.

Then.... Well to make a long boring story short, they caught fire.

They seem to be OK except that reflex stuff at the base of the cone is burned and the cone is scorched a bit. They still play (so he says)

But what the hell? i hooked em' up right, they sounded good, then... stopped.

Is it me or do Coustic 15s spontaneously combust?
