Court Date on Holiday

I got a misdemeanor traffic ticket, and my court date as stated on the ticked was set for today, 10-11-10, which is a holiday (Columbus Day).

I took the time off work and went to the court house, to find the doors locked. I proceeded to walk around the building, at which point I found and talked with a local officer who proceeded to tell me that court is not in session due to the holiday.

Where should I go from here?

Call the number on the ticket, idiot.

There is no number on the ticket, however the local officer did give me the number.

But what do I tell them when I call them?

Well OK. I tell them that I tried to show up to court on my scheduled date and it was closed, that is obvious. Where does the conversation go from there?

Thats what Im asking. Do I request to meet with the judge that day and motion for dismissal? Or do you think it will just get re-scheduled, or what? I have no idea because I dont do this all the time.

Call the court on the next open day, Tuesday and ask them. They mightve sent you a letter but waiting on that could get a bench warrant. Call them and talk to them on tuesday because they wouldve moved the scheduled ish to another day.

yes, i'm sure it will be rescheduled, rather than tossed out. i would personally call them as early as possible. warrants are a bitch

This. And you licensed will be suspended with a warrant so you will get another ticket for driving with a suspended license. along with the original ticket and failure to appear.
