I've been thinking about a couple of things this week. Besides the fact I haven't been on here in forever, my system has been performing extremely well (still the one in my sig). However, I can't say the same for my electrical system. I've gone through three alternators in the past year and a half. The first one I bought was just a routine replacement, and I had to buy a new battery at that time also. Well, about every 6-7 months afterwards, the alternators fry. It would seem like they'd just go out at once. Like one time I was listening to some Disturbed songs, and when I was on the way home, my battery light came on. Then this last time I had been listening to some rap and it did the same thing. My normal music is classic rock and classic metal. Not having any problems this time, but I did crank my system up for a fool that thought he could compete with me at a red light the other night and my lights dimmed. I have a free life-time replacement on the alternators, so I don't give a rat's foot, in that regard, but I still am tired of switching alternators out all the time.
So, here is what I'd like to know. I can't find a high-output alternator for the 3.8L Mustangs, only the V8s, GTs, etc have them that I have seen. Can I still use one of those in mine? And if I can, I guess I'd get a heavy duty battery to go along with it. And of course, this big 3 thing. What kind of shops would do that, is another thing I'd like to know. I don't know how to do it myself, and none of my friends have ever heard of it. I'm a total n00b when it comes to the car electrical system. I'd be afraid I'd screw everything up.
