Could I go ported?

Howdy,

I was planning on building this box sealed, but I wonder if I could make a ported box near these dimensions.

http://chicagocomp.net/robs/12inchboxwrangler.bmp

I can go a couple inches wider and taller, but not deeper.

I am starting w/a Pioneer 306c 12", but plan on upgrading to a stronger sub in the future. (Maybe an x-mas present?) //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

The reson I'm asking is because of the shape of the available room I have. (Going into a jeep wrangler)

Would I be able to make it port out of the top?

Thanks for any & all help!

Come on, I know one of you gurus here can help me out....

what are your max deminsions u can go and ill try to help
Thanks!

As I said, the depth has to stay the same to clear the hinges on the jeep, but I can go to 31" across, and up to 22-23" in height.

The depth is 11-12" at the bottom, and 8" at the top.

Thanks again! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsupwink.gif.129404938effda6ad9cca39e7f4b58a3.gif

I have built a box for my last jeep wrangler. These dimensions assume you use 3/4 MDF.

Top depth: 7"

Bottom depth: 10"

Height: 16"

Width: 29"

Throw a 3" diameter port @ 6" long in it wherever you like and you're good to go.

Is that interior measurements?

What ft3 would that give me?

Exterior dimensions. Sorry, it should be 30" wide.

((10+7) / 2) - 1.5) * (16-1.5) * (30-1.5) = 1.675 ft^3. Subtract port volume (.02 cubes) = 1.655 cubic.

Exactly what you're sub requires for a ported enclosure.

So it's 7" top, 10" bottom, 15" tall, 30" wide.

My plan was to make the enclosure a bit too big so I could move up to a different sub in the future.

Would this be wise?

Because of the detail in the box (lighting, plexi-panel, vinyl) I didn't want to have to make a new box if I move up to a better sub, likely DVC.

And just to be sure, this is with a round port 3" wide x 6" deep?

Thanks again!

All external dimensions.

height: 20

top depth: 7

bottom depth: 10

width: 30

volume = 2.13cubes - port displacement = 2.11cubes Subtract woofer displacement, and pretty much right below 2.1 cubes.

Yes you can swap port tubes later. And yes your current port needs to be 3" diameter x 6" long

Excellent!

Thanks for your help, and I plan on taking a bunch of pics when I do the build.

Just to reitterate, I can put the port pointing pretty much any way?

Yup, you just don't want to put it on the ends becuase it won't have anywhere to breath to.
