Corvette Newbie

I own a 2001 Corvette Coupe with a stock Bose System and 12 Disk changer. I replaced the rear speakers with Infinity's 6.35 ( I think) They only lasted a year before they started to crackle. Someone on the Corvette Forum said this was the place to go for help! I was told to upgrade my amp's other wise if I liked loud music I would continue to fry these speakers. What do I need to do to improve this system with a budget of $750? Bear in mind I am a rookie when it comes to installations. I dont mind paying to have it done but I would perfer to do it myself. Thank you in advance

Well....what exactly are you looking to do? If I were you, I would completely ditch the Bose system since it's basically a piece of shit....get a new HU, a nice set of component speakers with an amp....and a 10 or 12 if you want to put a sub in....

Ok, you looking for just speakers, or do you want a subwoofer setup? I know that a corvette doesn't have too much room in the trunk, but you can do a nice single 10" or 12" setup in there easily I'm sure.

Do you know if the stock head unit has any preamp outputs?

If you wanna do speakers all around (I'm assuming just 2 front and 2 rear), it would sound best if amplified. With $750 to spend, there's a million options out there that would give you great sound. I personally like Infinity's lineup, you can pick up a nice set of Kappa comps for the front for around $150, then get yourself a good amp for them for under $200.

Check out http://www.etronics.com for Soundstream amps, and http://www.thezeb.com for some US Acoustics amps. Both companies make great amps at very reasonable prices.

A little more info on what you are looking for would help (whether or not you want a sub, how many speakers you're looking to put in, etc.), so let us know!!

You wanna know why I did it? I remember I was reading this list of how to make your roommate go crazy, and one of them was:

"Go out and buy a bunch of Transformers toys. Play with them day and night. When your roommate asks you why you are playing with these toys, look at him with a serious face and say, 'they are more than meets the eye'."

That's kind of why I chose it, hehe

P.S.- like your avitar.

I want to upgrade the amp first. Most of the sound in this system is biased towards the front speakers. What sound I do? I suspect it needs more power as the louder I try to play it the more distorted the rear speakers become.

Well, if your speakers are running off the head unit, yes, it will get very distorted at high volumes.
Like I said, look into a nice set of component speakers up front, and some 6.5" coaxes for the rear.

ok...first of....i suggest getting a nice pair of comps for your fronts.....and a nice amp to power them.....i dont recomend speakers in the rear simply because it throws of your imaging......but if your not to concerned w/ overall imaging of a system.....get some speakers for the rear.......

now my recomendations for amps and comps are as follows

comps - adire audio koda 6.1's (349.00)(hit josh (jlaine) up he doesnt charge shipping)

amps - usacoustics 4085 ...... http://www.thezeb.com has them for fairly cheap

rear speakers - whatever sounds good to you

I upgraded the rears twice and blew them both times thats why I was told to get another amp. There are three storage compartments in the rear deck so I have room for a amp there. But I havent a clue as to what to look for and how to install it. Its why I came here, for help
