Ive read about people building boxes out of mdf and then covering them with resin and then painting.

I want to do this tp my g/fs box so that it will look sexy.

So correct me if Im wrong or have left anything out. I just want to make sure I got my **** straight before I dive into this. This will be my first time using resin, bondo, and primer.

So basically here is how I planned on doing it, correct me if Im wrong:

1. Build box out of MDF

2. Round corners off

3. Bondo over screw holes and any other places that may cause trouble

4. Resin the entire box then sand smooth

5. Primer the resin, 3 coats of paint, and then 2-3 coats of clearcoat.

6. This is where I want to add something for it to stand out. I want to find a cutout of a trans am firebird symbol and paint the symbol on the box. The symbol will be black and the box red. (this is going to be her valentines present so I want to put alot into it, so if anyone knows off hand where I might can find a cut out of a firebird symbol i would appreciate it or how i can make one)

7. Use a polisher to really make it shine.

Now, some more questions.

What kind of primer and paint would be best when painting resin? Just regular auto paint from Autozone? I was hoping to get the same color as her car.

How many coats of resin?

Should I bondo over the entire box and then resin over?

In case you dont know what the firebird symbol is, I attached a pic of it.

Thanks in advance

hey..i found a firebird symbol...its in the first post. you don't really need the resin to paint it. just bondo all the screws & cut edges. sand bondo w/ 220. primer. sand w/440. primer. sand w/ 800. lay base coat red. let completely dry. tape up the side you want your 'bird'. print out the bird you put on the first post the appropriate size. trace onto tape. cut out with razor. spray black on bird cutout you just made. let dry. pull of tape. lay a couple coats of clear.if your using spary can clear i wouldn't try polishing it. it usually just make a mess unlike automotive clear out of a gun. that should be about it.

and oh ya drink lotsa beer;)

Alright, thats what I needed to know. Thanks guys! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Oh one more thing......would wet sanding help the paint any?

Right, didn't think about the MDF....

Well, I got everything down pat so far. But if anyone comes across a bigger image of a firebird I would appreciate it if you post it up for me. Im searchin my ass off on google and not finding any luck.

print out that image, outline it so when you enlarge it you get no pixelation problems, then bring to kinko's and theyll make as big as you need. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
Kinko's???

And I tried making the image bigger in photoshop and it gets really blurry.
