cooling on a sub!!!! HELP!!!!!

Not really sure what you are talking about.

If your basket didnt have vents for cooling under the spider plateau, then you cant add cooling other than drilling holes or changing baskets.

Your motor has a pole piece vent which helps.

The DD units are JUST spacers -- they allow more rearward throw.

Some companies, Sundown included, use nuts or aluminum spacers under the 4-spoke / 6-spoke frames to allow air flow in this area -- this does help cooling. It ALSO provides more rearward clearance.

with the 4 spoke basket a spacer between the motor and basket is a must for a 500+rms woofer. if it dosent have venting the powerhandling of the sub is greatly reduced.

i have been machining spacers for yrs for the 4 spoke basket. you can use a nut but a stack of washers would work better because you want even flat contact with a cast alum basket so it dosent crack from weight of a heavy motor. or get someone to turn you out 6 spacers...

Thanks for clearing that up Jacob:cool:

so it would stop a coil from bottomin out as quick?

No - it will not stop a coil from bottoming at all. The coil position in the gap doesn't change when you add spacers -- if it did the woofer would not perform right.

It will keep the *spider* from hitting the top plate of the woofer if the spider allows more throw than is mechanically available from the landing to the top plate.
