convince me to not buy these

They have true drivers in the bud, seems like a good buy.

EDIT: Although, if you are already going to be spending 200+ on headphones, the same company does an over the ear set that would have a much more powerful driver for better sub 40hz range.

 
You should get a set of Shure's new open headphones. SRH1440 or SRH1840.
