If a plane is traveling at takeoff speed on a conveyor belt, and the belt is matching that speed in the opposite direction, can the plane take off?

Answer incorrectly, and you will be banned. No one is forcing you to vote. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

So...if you're wrong, will you be swinging that ban hammer on yourself?

to question:

If a plane is traveling at takeoff speed on a conveyor belt, and the belt is matching that speed in the opposite direction [implying that plane's landing geer wheels are spinning at take off speed RPM and the aircraft is at a standstill with engines throttled], can the plane take off?

no. plane will not be moving, therefore there will be zero airfoil effect.

Shit, I chose the wrong answer (no) I'm ****ed //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif:laugh://content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif I just took physics too, guess I read the problem to hastily //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif

Nice knowing ya guys, two days to live?

Nope, the force of the engines thrust is independent of the wheels. They act as friction, but a minimal one at that. Pretend the plane is already flying and you manage to spin the wheels backwards, will it slow down? Of course not because the wheels are free spinning....

They will spin twice as fast, yes, but the plane will continue forward. Looks like your ****ed too //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
