Connected Negative cable to battery...loud POP!(noob)

Well I've tried all 4 wires I have and it's still not working. The subs worked on my home theater system, so it's either the amp or the RCA cables or the stereo.

I bought the car used and it was prewired. I doubt it's the stereo. I tried swapping RCA ports on the stereo and no use. There's no boom. What are the chances of an amp turning on, but not being able to work a sub(as in broken)? Is this likely? I bought the amp used.

Could it be the subwoofers speaker wire? They're pretty old...

I really hope the amp works. I bought it on eBay so I can still return it, but I'd have to pay $6 for shipping.... Should I go buy more speaker wire?

Hey man, I know some of those units have the option to turn the subwoofer On/Off from the head unit settings. Press the knob in and hold and it should bring you to the settings.. Scroll through to see if there is any option to turn the subwoofer on or off and make sure it is on. That could be the reason that it isn't turned on. Otherwise, you can simply grab an RCA to Aux adapter wire from walmart for 3 bucks and plug it into your amp inputs and use an MP3 player or phone to play some music through the amp to make sure the amp works.

This is what the adapter wire looks like.

wtf? I just hooked up the speaker to my home theater. It doubles as a speaker??? More of a speaker than a sub, little to no bass.

So the speaker and wire work, but the volume is very, very low for some reason.

I'm going to go try the amp with RCA's hooked to the car again and crank up the volume....

I have an RCA to aux handy. I tried it and I didn't hear any thump. Maybe sound is coming out but barely? Gonna go try once more...

If something does come out, that means that the amp works and the subwoofers are just garbage no?

I've been trying all evening and am frustrated out of my mind...

I turned everything up. No luck.

The RCA cable in my car works. The signal cable, ground, and power all work. The sub and speaker wire, crappy, but work. Is it safe to assume that the problem is the amplifier? Did I get screwed over?

I disconnected one of my home theater speakers and hooked it up in so many different ways on the amplifier. With the car's RCA and with my aux to RCA cable. Nothing. Is this the amp's fault? I'm about to go off on the seller on eBay...just need confirmation....All this work for nothing.

So I contacted the guy and opened up a case on Ebay.

"Thank you for the updated information. I apologize for the problems you are having with the AMP. However, I can assure you the AMP had been used in my car for months and has never had any problems. It was professionally installed (I have the receipt) and I'd be happy to pay for your return shipping if you can provide me with some sort of receipt or proof from an Audio Shop that can provide you service claiming the AMP is no longer working.

In addition, you opened your case with me before giving me 24 hours to respond. I am willing to work with you and I have been nothing more than responsive to all of your messages. Therefore, it would be more than fair that I ask you to close the case seeing that I am willing to work with you."

This guy's serious. I don't even know anymore. I'm going to a car audio shop tomorrow. You think they'll charge for testing out the amp?

$35 just to see if the amp worked. $35

I am beyond pissed off. The amp has no output meaning it was fried. I have spent $35 just to f***ing prove that the amp doesn't work. I then have to pay $6 to ship it back. That's more than half of what I paid for the amp. What a joke. The guys at Car Audio Depot told me my wiring was perfect, but the amp wasn't. So disappointed. Being 17 and without a job, $41 is a good amount of money to just have vanish...
