Confusion on Dual 2 Ohms and Dual 4 Ohms

Yeah I heard sundown is a very good company but im trying to keep the price from $300 and down. I probably just gotta search some sites, see what kind of deals are out there. $215 for the cadence seems good, but would a 2400 watt amp be overkill? ( I know it would be wired at 1200) I found the audioque for $230. Would the extra $70 be an upgrade over the mb quart?
2400 is peak, in other words ignore that.

RMS Handling @ 4 Ohm: 600 Watts @ 4 Ohm

RMS Handling @ 2 Ohm: 1200 Watts @ 2 Ohm

Thats what it does at 13.8v. Also, Ive seen a lot of people suggest to get an amp based for the impedance you are running. So if you were at 1ohm, get one thats made to do 1ohm, since you are at 2ohm, get one designed for 2ohm.

3 - 40 amp fuses.....do the math.

120 amps at 13.8v = 1656 watts. (at 100% efficiency)

At 70% efficiency you get - 1159 watts.

Cadence also rates it max rms at 1200. So I be guessing it is close to 70% efficient. So it will do rated, not much more.

There have been many examples of amps that put out more then they are fused for. Cause the fuse can handle more then its rated for short periods. And I would think efficiency would be closer to 80% for a quality D class amp.

Regardless, it should make rated, which is all the OP was wanting to begin with. Never said it would do more.

ok so i think im going to go with the audioque 1200d. Seems to be a very good amp for the price with good reviews. anyone know where i can pick one up online. i remember seeing it for like $220 on a website, but i cant remember the name...it was like west coast something...i dont know.

It is a good amp, but its only rated for 870 @ 2ohm.

It will be fine for a pair of type-r's. A LITTLE low, yes, but at least he'll be ready for when he wants to step up to something else //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Plus, in the right enclosure, he shouldn't notice the difference.

Just buy it used, or directly from AQ. I'd go used, though - they pop up fairly often for around $200.

well now im second guessing. is the cadence a better amp, besides power rating? how is the quality of the amp compared to the audioque? anything else in the same price range?

Im pretty sure the Cadence is a safe bet. I always see the Z line being recomended, and since you are buying new you have a 2 year warranty. It makes rated, and is from a quality company/line. There are others out there that have their pluses as well, but to me if you are looking in the 1k range of 2 ohm, it just makes the most sense.

Plus the less you have to push it towards its limits (having more headroom) is always a good thing. There really isnt much difference in 800-1000w or even 1200, which is why I got it, to have the headroom. Less stress so it should last longer, and less distortion.
