Confused about XXX6500

I just got one new from someone on ROE. I hooked it up, power comes on and it does work. But very oddly the voltage jumps up and down when I was setting the gains with a DMM. I mean it should go up and down by .x volts or by 1-3V the most, but the sucker was doing 20V drops and gains. Plus with sine wavs it seems to get pretty loud, but it sounded like the Treo I had may have been louder, I dont know. However, at the same gain settings and all, when I play actual music there is a huge difference and it seems like it really doesnt hit that hard at all...never had that problem with the Treo SSX 1500.1 I had. I have a few ideas why this may be happening. 1) I only have a 200A fuse by the battery and I'm waiting for a 300A fuse to come in. 2) I have a stock 90A alt. But for comps I'll be in Street B and the car would need to be off. I'm going to try to take it to an audio shop this weekend, but I'm not sure if I'll get the chance to or not. Do you have any thoughts or suggestions on what I just mentioned? The most I turned the gain up was a little above halfway. Currently its set at 1/4. BTW: I'm running a DD 9515d in a 5 cu. ft. enclosure tuned to ~35 Hz.

XXX6500 on a stock alternator? Wow I wouldn't even try. Might of sound louder before because your voltage wasn't dipping as much as it is now?

What about with the car off, does that make a difference with how many amps the alternator is?

dude thats dumb that amp is a monster for stock alt unless you got 16v batterybanks id wait to bump that amp

Beside the alt being stock what about the battery? Hope you have a couple of them atleast and considering you have a stock alt I suppose the big 3 is not done either. Dude you need a mobile power plant for that amp. Start coughing up cash for electrical shit.

I have the big 3 done all in 1/0. I have one run of 1/0 as well. I'm using an HC 1400 under the hood, but anyways the reason why i wasnt upgrading to a better alt is becaus id be gettin another vehicle in a few months and didnt wanna drop 300-400 on a new alt and then end up not having any use for it...it really doesnt matter now since my DD has a bad coil and I'm just gonna get an early jump on my next system. I'll be using a brahma, just gotta get an amp for it as well as sell my blown dd. ive got an offer for 200 shipped so far....my xxx 6500 with less than 1 hour usage will also be up for sale, i just gotta find time to put up a FS thread.
