confused about people "comparing" subs

while you get people comparing different subs, most are general guesses or personal preferences. Because it would take a ton of study for anyone to say which woofer would work best, without know the car, freq, interior,power,enclosure,source,etc of each car ...

I search and read all these posts about people comparing subs that are not even in the same class. I see people comparing type r's to RE XXX's and sx's, RL-P's to magnums and AVA's. Most say type r> others. I wish everyone would take a second to think about somthing. Lets say subwoofer y is hooked to amp x. This combintation could have a signifigant db and sq difference depending on box and vehicle and location in vehicle. Yes i have heard a 300 rms watt kicker l5 in the kicker vented box blow 2 15's out the brain????? But given those 15's of a brand with some track record and sufficiantly powered they should be louder than a single 12 right. Wrong... it all depends what its in. The only way to truly compare a subwoofer would be to hook them up in the exact same conditions and limit the variables. I think subwoofer should be compared on an overall scale not soley on a db output scale. So next time you compare a subwoofer take these facts into considerationower, Price and Position(this includes box and placement in vehicle also type of vehicle tha subwoofer is put in)

The only way to truly compare a subwoofer would be to hook them up in the exact same conditions and limit the variables.

This is the one thing people fail to understand or comprehend. You can't listen to sub X in one car, sub Y in another car and come to the conclusion that X > Y because the enviornment itself going to drastically affect the sound of the subbass. On top of that, the only way to fairly compare two subs is in the same type of alignment ...not enclosure, but alignment. You can't listen to sub X in a Qtc 1.2 enclosure and sub Y in a Qtc .5 enclosure and try to draw any valid conclusions.

So, just because you heard your buddies sub in his car, in his setup and with his (probably poor) tuning skills, it does NOT give you the ability or right to try to accurately compare that sub to anything else on the market.

God it irritates the hell out of me to read "Yo dawg, I heard my buddies and then went over to my other buddies car and listened to his and his shit was hella better yo. His sub teh r0x0r, my first buddy's sub is teh sux0r"
