Confused About Ohms and how much Power im getting

Ok so this is a noob question but no ever talks about it. My amp is 1700rms at 1 ohm and 950 @2, I wired my sub to 1.4 ohms and after impedance it would be like 1.8. Would this mean i am actually getting closer to 950 watts than 1700? and i should wire it down to .7 ohms to get the full power i want.

@ 1.4 ohms your looking round 1200 watts

use ohms law

the sqrt of rms x ohms = volts

so if you had 500 watts and a 4 ohm sub, you should be hitting 44.72 volts

just unhook your sub and check the sub terminals with a dmm playing a 50hz or so 0db test tone
